At the beginning of the twentieth century, the American Percival Lovell even built a special observatory in Arizona, with the help of which he unsuccessfully searched for a mysterious planet in the period from 1913 to 1915.
Modern astronomers believe that in the Solar System, beyond the orbit of Pluto, there is a large cosmic body that can be a planet. For example, in 1982, NASA officially recognized the probability of this fact, and in 1983, the IRAS satellite registered a large object outside the Solar System. “A celestial body, probably the size of Jupiter, and so close to Earth that it can be considered part of the Solar System, was discovered by an orbiting telescope in the direction of the constellation Orion. All I can say is that we don’t know what it is,” Gerry Nigebauer, the head of the IRAS project, told the Washington Post at the time. Calculations show that the proposed Planet X is three to four times the size of Earth, has an orbital inclination of 30 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic, and is three times farther from the Sun than Pluto. In 1987, at a press conference, NASA again acknowledged the possibility of a tenth planet “somewhere out there”, far beyond the known nine.
In October 1999, British astronomer John Murray completed accurate calculations of the trajectories of comets at the edge of the Solar System in the Oort cloud. According to all calculations, the comets were affected by a massive cosmic body hidden in the Oort cloud. It is several times larger than Jupiter and is 5,000 billion kilometers away from the Sun. The rotation period is 6,000,000 years, and the direction of motion of this body is opposite to the rotation of the nine known planets.
Now scientists are checking Murray’s data. Several major experts have already repeated the calculations of the Englishman and came to a similar conclusion – there is another planet in the Oort cloud.
